Routines
are wonderful. They make us feel secure. But they also dull
our sensibilities and their maintenance demands a great deal
of energy. In the professional world, the freelancer is at the
beck and call of the contractor. Hearing the phone ring, responding
"yes" to the contractor means there is bread on the
table. But successful freelancing makes regular music practice
rather difficult if not impossible. In the conservatory, the
situation is not optimal either. Our creative energies are often
consumed by consecutive weeks of orchestral rehearsals, orchestra
concerts, mid-terms, finals and papers. These events are scheduled
without regard to the budding musician's top priority, regular
practice. A Practice Marathon Retreat at Magic Mountain Music
Farm provides a creative haven for the performing musician.
Removed from the pressures of performing and the distractions
of everyday life, the environment enables you to stay in touch
with your unique creative energies in peak condition. Click
on the tabs below to experience a Practice Marathon Retreat
through the words of the participants and pictures of their
life at the farm.

"My two weeks at Magic Mountain Music Farm were some
of the happiest I have spent in many years. I found that living
communally with twelve musicians, and our mutual friendship
and support, was spiritually very satisfying. My lessons with
Burton Kaplan were stimulating and inspiring, and have given
me rich food for thought for a long time to come. Magic Mountain
is truly a spiritual oasis."
John
Lowry, Associat e Concertmaster
